The discovery of the 215 children lost in the residential school system in BC is touching home. Bob Schreader, Chairperson for the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board says they will be honouring the children today.
Director of Education with the Renfrew County District School Board, Pino Buffone says it’s important to mark the moment in the short term, but build on the process they’ve already made in terms of education and inclusion.
Both local school boards say that residential schools play a major part in the curriculum. Schreader adds that there has also been dialogue in the schools about the most current events.
Buffone also says the same is happening in the public school board.
Both school boards have also lowered their flags to honor the children.
