Thursday May 13th will not be recognized as Falun Dafa Day in Arnprior.
The request for a proclamation so-designating this was denied by elected representatives at Monday’s municipal meeting, leaving Mayor Walter Stack in shock at the anomaly.
Falun Dafa originated as Falun Gong in China, and the government there maintains its ostensible exercise program is subversive.
Mayor Stack believes the request for the proclamation stems from an earlier encounter he’d had with the Ottawa chapter of Falun Dafa several years ago.
The petition was defeated on a 4-3 vote.
