There’s a money pot for broadband expansion in Ontario, but the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus is still waiting on the province and feds to loosen the purse strings.
Chair and Renfrew County warden, Debbie Robinson says the Gig Project, which aims to connect homes and businesses to internet speeds of up to one gig, is sorely needed as a lot of the area is underserved.
And while there was always the option to lay infrastructure for slower internet, Robinson says 1 gig speeds will lay the groundwork for future high tech.
The Gig Project is projected to cost anywhere between $1.2 to $1.6 billion.
