A 63-year-old man from Pembroke has been charged after trying to run from police. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say they attempted to make a traffic stop around 6pm Sunday night in Westmeath. The vehicle failed to stop and continued until the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot on Graham Street. The driver was arrested by police after a short foot chase. There were no one else in the vehicle and police seized open liquor from the car. Richard Vanderbeck is now facing charges of impaired driving, flighting from police, operating a vehicle while prohibited and driving with open liquor. The vehicle was seized and impounded for 45 days. The accused was released with a court date on July 13, 2021.
