The COVID-19 outbreak at Miramichi Lodge long-term care home in Pembroke has come to an end.
The County of Renfrew says two residents died from complications due to the virus and five others recovered.
Acting Medical Officer of Health for the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, Dr. Robert Cushman, says the fact that almost all of the residents had been vaccinated played a key role in the recovery
The residents received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine on February 8th followed by their second dose on March 8th.
At this time, 100% of the residents have received their first dose with most now fully vaccinated. Eighty-six percent of staff have been vaccinated to date with more scheduled and 98% of essential caregivers are vaccinated.
Mayor Michael Donohue and Chair of the Health Committee that governs Miramichi Lodge expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the two residents that perished. Donohue added he’s so incredibly grateful for the enormous effort of all staff that has finally ended this extremely trying outbreak.
