Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Member of Parliament Cheryl Gallant wants members of the Federal Liberal Caucus to unite in support of small modular reactors.
Addressing the Commons in a recent speech the member observes that the nuclear industry has been a major employer in the riding since the inauguration of the technology.
She urges the federal government to support construction of an experimental reactor replacement for the National Research Universal (NRU) nuclear reactor, which was recently retired after almost six decades of reliable service.
Gallant called on Liberal caucus members, who have opposed the nuclear industry, and who oppose the development at Chalk River to change their stance: nuclear belongs in the national energy mix.
Local officials recognize the importance of the nuclear industry and its time the Feds followed suit.
