Reports are surfacing of a “creep catching” scheme at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) in Chalk River.
The Toronto Star is reporting that two co-workers allegedly caught another co-worker on video going to meet who they thought was a 13-year-old at the Harvey’s/Swiss Chalet location in Petawawa.
After reporting the incident to the company’s ethics manager, the two employees who tried to catch the alleged child predators faced disciplinary measures.
The Star reports one of the of the CNL employees who helped catch with the “creep catching” was suspended without pay for 132 hours (almost a month) for showing the video of the planned meet-up to co-workers.
It was determined the employee who was talking to who they believed to be a 13-year-old was bullied and harassed after they were confronted and other co-workers were told about the incident.
The Toronto Star is also reporting the other individual who was involved in the “creep catching” scheme breached CNL’s workplace harassment policy and was fired with cause.
The labour dispute reportedly took over a year to resolve, lasting from November of 2019 to December of 2020.
According to the Star, CNL has said they are not supportive of interest group investigations outside of the law and the specific concerns should have been brought to law enforcement.
CNL says they take the safety and security of employees and communities very seriously, especially criminal activity and those which involve vulnerable people.
CNL was informed that the allegations were provided to law enforcement and will cooperate fully and willingly with any police investigations, however, we are not aware of any such investigations arising from these allegations.
