The Pembroke Memorial Centre (PMC) will be one of the sites used for the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out in Renfrew County and District. Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) Senior Vice-President of Clinical and Support Services – Partnerships and Integration, Sabine Mersmann, says the clinic will be operational as of Friday, March 12th, 2021. She says this weekend they hope to do 600 vaccinations a day and ramp up to 900 per day by next week.
Everyone who wants a vaccine can register for an appointment in the coming weeks and months based on eligibility as outlined by the province. Mersmann says the booking system is open to all local residents and you can pick what clinic is most convenient for you when booking an appointment online. She adds Quebec residents who work in Pembroke will also be eligible to go to the clinic at the PMC.
Mersmann says they will have mobile clinics for people who are physically unable to come to the in-person clinics.
She adds it’s a collaborative effort between hospital staff, the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), County of Renfrew Paramedic Service, the Pembroke Fire Department, community volunteers, PRH retirees and the City of Pembroke for facilitating use of the PMC for the clinics going forward.
The RCDHU says the next group eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Renfrew County and District includes retirement home residents and their essential caregivers, residents who are 80 years and older and Indigenous residents who are 55 years of age and older.
After that group is vaccinated, next in line is adults receiving chronic home care and high priority health care workers including mental health, addictions, developmental services, campus health, daycare/school nursing, dietary, opticians, podiatry, audiology, naturopath, social work, and non-acute rehabilitation such as chiropractic, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychiatry, psychology, massage therapy, acupuncture and public health.
