Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Canadians lovingly packed 373,188 shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and many other items during the 2020 Operation Christmas Child shoebox campaign.
During the next few weeks, children in Central America and western Africa will be receiving shoeboxes packed by caring Canadians.
This nation’s total was part of over 9 million boxes collected here, as well as in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Australia, and New Zealand.
There is a religious aspect to the donation as the shoe boxes are part of efforts by Samaritan’s Purse Canada.
Local donations include 799 shoe boxes packed in Pembroke-Petawawa, with 287 originating in Arnprior and 580 shoe boxes packed in Carleton Place.
