The Laurentian Valley (LV) Skating Trail has been open for almost two weeks now. Manager of Public Works, Mark Behm, says everyone has been following the COVID-19 rules and guidelines in place.
The LV Skating Trail is allowed 25-people on weekdays with online registration required. On weekends since volunteers are managing the flow of traffic and ensuring COVID-19 guidelines are followed, 100 people are allowed on a first come first serve basis with no reservations needed.
Behm says anyone attending the LV Skating Trail is asked to bring a backpack to carry their belongings (including boots/shoes) while on the ice. He says items are not allowed to be left at the trailhead.
The first day the Skating Trail was open, Behm says about 250 people came through the gates. He says even with 80 to 100 people on the Skating Trail it feels quiet, considering the night skates they hosted in past years would draw in over 1,000 people in 3-hours.
The Laurentian Valley Public Works Manager says last weekend they saw about 400 people at the trail each day. Behm says there was a short line of about ten people on Saturday to get onto the Skating Trail and adds it tends to be busier in the afternoons. He encourages those interested to come in the morning when it’s not as busy.
The LV Skating Trail is open 7-days a week from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
