Only one new case of COVID-19 has been reported in the last week across Renfrew County and District.
Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), Dr. Robert Cushman, says there are currently no local outbreaks.
While presenting to county council this morning (Jan. 27th, 2021), Dr. Cushman pointed out the large number of cases in Renfrew County in people under the age of 40, noting seniors in our area seem to be behaving themselves.
Cushman says while there has only been one case in the last seven days, the RCDHU is investigating two potential cases related to an outbreak at a clinic in Ottawa. The Acting Medical Officer of Health says if these individuals test positive they will have brought the virus into our community. Cushman says the point is not where they got it, but to show this is how the virus gets into the community.
Cushman hopes with the safety precautions observed in these clinics, the local residents test negative.
Cushman says in Renfrew County we had two major spikes in COVID-19 cases, right around the holidays and with the Whitewater community outbreak. He adds with cases dropping, there’s good evidence the lockdown is working, but reminds the general public to not let their guard down.
