Plans are still in the works to launch a ride-sharing service in Renfrew County.
The launch of the “share the ride” website was supposed to be in June of 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tomorrow (January 27th), County Council will vote on a recommendation to work with RideShark to help create a winter on-demand community transit network.
If county council agrees to move forward, a study will be conducted to learn how ride sharing platforms can provide a solution to rural transportation and transit challenges.
There’s not expected to be any additional costs for doing this project other than some staff time that’s required.
County staff say this project will be an ideal launch to their ride sharing program and will demonstrate that Renfrew County is at the leading edge of developing and applying solutions to rural transportation challenges.
