Don’t be thinking that just because we’ve been experiencing a pandemic, the Ottawa River is going to ease up on the temptation to flood Valley properties again this coming Spring.
The Township of Whitewater Region has convened a stakeholder discussion on the possibilities thereof.
The session occurred on December 2nd, via zoom and was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry and Ontario Power Generation.
The meeting focussed on the Planning Board’s Fall Conditions Overview in the Ottawa River Basin.
Township Mayor Michael Moore believes his municipality can play a vital role in hearing local concerns and passing them on to appropriate authorities.
Ahead of the spring freshet, the Township has 30,000 sandbags in reserve.
As well, staff are reviewing the Township’s Emergency Program and Plan for Council’s consideration in early 2021, including a Flooding Readiness Plan.
