Town of Arnprior Council will take its third crack at amending the Municipal Code of Conduct policy’s provisions covering the social media responsibilities of individual elected representatives, and whether fundraising activities put them in conflict of interest.
The amended Code names the Mayor as the spokesperson of Council, and restricts the individual members from publicly criticizing decision of the body they don’t agree with, once that matter has been decided by a vote.
In fact, those stipulations have been contained in the Municipal Act for years- extending them to social media is just keeping the Municipal Code in step with the times.
Following discussion at the December 14th municipal meeting, representatives accepted Town Clerk Maureen Spratt’s offer to present them with a third draft of the proposed Code revisions in January.
