Renfrew County Catholic District School Board Trustee Judy Ellis is retiring at year’s end after more than two decades of serving the local Catholic school community.
Ellis served briefly on the Board from February-April 1997, and then again for the long haul, from October 1999 until her pending retirement.
She was appointed to the RCCDSB as trustee representative for the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and followed the the footsteps of her late father, Andrew Lavalley, who had also served in the role.
In 2003, Ellis was appointed to serve on the Minister’s Advisory Council for Special Education as a representative of the Native communities.
She served as the Board Vice-Chair for one year and sat on a number of RCCDSB committees over her tenure.
Current RCCDSB Chair David Howard has been on the Board with Ellis for all of her 20-plus years and terms her a “steadfast advocate for equity and inclusion.”
