Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced broadband funding for communities across the province.
Ford says they are announcing close to $1-billion ($680-million as part of the 2020 budget in addition to a previous $315-million commitment over 5-years) to improve and connect communities to high-speed internet and cell service.
Ford says the pandemic has shown the importance of cell service and high-speed internet, helping students learn from home, bank, shop, watch movies and get news.
The Premier says 12% of Ontario or 1.4-million people do not have access to high-speed internet.
