The County of Renfrew is among five regions in the Province selected to participate in a pilot program expanding Community Paramedic services to local residents on Longterm Care (LTC) waiting lists.
Renfrew County EMS Chief Mike Nolan says an extra dozen community paramedics will be hired with the million dollars annually announced Friday (today) by Longterm Care Minister, Dr. Merrilee Fullerton.
The additional staff will service the needs of those chosen from the approximately 600 County residents on LTC waiting lists, and allow them to remain in their homes.
The announcement drew dignitaries from the County of Renfrew, along with Provincial Ministers Fullerton and Yakabuski to the Paramedic station on O’Brien Road in Renfrew for a socially-distanced news conference over the Noon hour Friday.
While the pilot program is planned to last three years, Minister Fullerton is optimistic that given Ontario’s aging population, it will prove valuable and may be expanded Province-wide.
