Are COVID fears keeping your child out of figure skating this year?
Jay Connaughan, vice-president of the Arnprior Figure Skating Club says this year the Nick Smith Centre ice surfaces are not the beehive of activity you may be imagining in your mind.
Connaughan says in this age group, a skating parent must accompany the young skater to lift them to their feet should they fall.
Doing the math, counting young skaters, a parent, and instructors, the maximum number of 25 people on the ice is reached- but this is still on a regulation ice surface, so social distancing is far superior than what you might see on a school bus, or in a classroom setting.
With CanSkate, because self-mobility is required, 20 skaters are allowed per session.
Fees range from 200 dollars for Pre-Can to 590 dollars for Advanced CanSkate.
