Premier Doug Ford says the second wave of COVID-19 is here in Ontario.
He says all options are on the table to combat a surge in cases, comments that come after the province reported 700 new cases today.
It’s the highest recorded daily increase in coronavirus cases for Ontario since the start of the pandemic.
The premier has also announced an additional 52-million-dollars to hire 3,700 more nurses and personal support workers to help address the virus.
Ontario’s hospitals are calling on the government to bring back restrictions in specific regions of the province as daily COVID-19 case counts continue to rise.
Most of Ontario’s 700 new cases were reported in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa.
The Ontario Hospital Association says the government must move those regions back to Stage Two of the province’s pandemic response, which saw restrictions on non-essential businesses like restaurants, gyms, and movie theatres.
The association says hospitals could become overwhelmed if action isn’t taken.
