A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Fellowes High School.
Two confirmed cases that are linked meets the Province’s guidelines for an outbreak to be declared, and the Renfrew County and District Health Unit did just that Tuesday night, after a second staff member at the Pembroke high school tested positive for the virus.
The RCDHU and Fellowes staff are following up and testing individuals deemed to be at risk; the area of the facility where the infection became apparent is believed relatively low-risk.
The Health Unit expects numbers of additional cases will be relatively low, but it is weighing the situation carefully in case a further determination is required.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Cushman considers that we have reached a teachable moment, that compels us to take a second look at good practises: COVID symptoms can mimic many other illnesses.
If you have any symptoms of illness, sat home; others in your family should also isolate until you get your test results.
Cushman says irresponsible behaviours are premature, and you should limit your social activities and keep your bubble small.
A full list of COVID protocols is on the RCDHU website, where you can also access the RCVTAC mobile COVID swabbing schedule.
