Whitewater Region is lowering flags at three locations to remember a former councillor and long-time Cobden resident who passed away.
On Tuesday (September 8th), Walter Schroeder also known as Wally passed away at Groves Park Lodge in Renfrew in his 95th year.
Wally enlisted in the 4th Canadian Signal Corps in 1943 and served in France and Holland during World War 2.
Walter worked as an electrician spending time with Cobden Hydro before joining Atomic Energy in Chalk River where he spent most of his career.
Wally served on council for the Village of Cobden between 1960 and 1965 and was a member of the Cobden Legion.
The Township is lowering flags on Thursday, September 10th to half-mast at Mineview, Veterans Memorial Park and outside the Township Office.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Wally’s memory to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital or the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
