While there may be fewer students heading off to college or post-secondary training this year, those who are should not neglect fire safety concerns when getting out from under mom and dad’s yolk.
Cory Nicholas, Captain of Prevention Services with the Arnprior Fire Department, says enjoy your new surroundings, but don’t put fire safety on the back burner.
Nicholas says avoid distractions while attending to household duties- playing video games is a good way for your attention to task to be lost to screen time- with potential consequences.
The Fire Captain says always extinguish candles before falling asleep.
Smoke outdoors- couch cushions can smoulder- so develop good practises to avert danger.
