As we head into the last long weekend of the summer, the Surete du Quebec is urging motorists to exercise care.
Quebec law mandates that every road user is required to act with caution and respect when traveling on a public road.
Speed and reckless driving, distraction, the inability to drive impaired by alcohol, drugs or a combination of the two, as well as not wearing a seat belt are still the main causes of fatal collisions or with serious injuries in Quebec.
Recently there have been several fatal collisions involving motorcyclists, and it is important to be extra careful, especially at intersections.
Motorcyclists, on the other hand, need to make sure they are seen.
Wearing conspicuous or fluorescent clothing with reflective bands is recommended by police.
Last year the long weekend saw six fatalities on SQ patrolled roads.
Adopting responsible and safe behavior on the road is essential to reduce or eliminate that total.
