The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP is investigating a fatal two vehicle collision which left one person deceased and another with serious injuries.
Last night (September 1st), just before 5:00pm, police, paramedics and firefighters were called to a collision on Highway 41 north of Mountain Road.
The investigation revealed that a southbound passenger car collided with a northbound passenger van on a curve in the roadway. Both drivers were extricated by firefighters.
The driver, and lone occupant, of the passenger car was transported to hospital by land ambulance with life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital. The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Paula Bashford of Bonnechere Valley Township.
The 31-year-old female driver the passenger van, a Pembroke resident, was transported to hospital by ambulance and subsequently flown by air ambulance to an Ottawa-area hospital. Two school aged children in the passenger van were not injured.
A section of Highway 41 between Walsh Road and Mountain Road was closed until approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning due to the investigation.
An OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigator are assisting with the investigation and a post mortem examination will be conducted.
