The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) has welcomed the first ever First Nation Trustee.
Jessica Verch is a member of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation with educational background in Native Social Services and Early Childhood Education.
Verch will help by overseeing all facets of operation with the local school board.
The district currently provides educational services for nearly 100 students from the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.
Chief Wendy Jocko says this is an historic event, as this will be the first appointment of a First Nation Trustee to this board.
School board chair Susan Humphries says they look forward to working with Trustee Verch in support of Indigenous student achievement and well-being.
