Roughly 60 people from all across eastern Ontario extending as far as Kingston attended the “Restore Our Rights” rally in Pembroke this morning. A crowd gathered outside the office of MPP John Yakabuski to voice displeasure about Bill 195.
The President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions for CUPE, Michael Hurley, says Bill 195 overrides the collective agreement meaning workers can be moved from the day shift to the night shift without consultation, moved to another community, your job could be eliminated, parental leave or vacation can be pulled back and grievances are not able to be filed.
Hurley says this bill is hurting front-line workers across Ontario.
Hurley says the government passed Bill 195 in July which means workplace rights can be overridden for at least a year, up to three years.
