The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is providing resources to help understand the face mask requirements. The RCDHU has developed a business operators toolkit to answer any questions. Everyone has been directed to wear a face mask while inside enclosed public spaces unless they’re exempt.
The acting medical officer of health for the RCDHU, Doctor Robert Cushman, says it’s critical we continue to work together to control the spread of COVID-19 and prevent a spike in cases. Cushman says they’ve compiled a tool for businesses that includes mask/face covering information and directions, guidance documents, fact sheets, FAQs, etc., that is available both online and as hard copy.
Information includes responsibilities and requirements of businesses and organizations to ensure face masks regulations are being followed, signage is in place, hand sanitizer is available at the entrances and exits, staff should be properly trained, employees and customers should be screened and educated about the face mask directive. Businesses should also place markers on the floor to ensure physical distancing and clean or disinfect high-touch surfaces. The health unit says these requirements apply to all businesses in Renfrew County and District including hair and nail salons, restaurants and transportation services.
The RCDHU says each sector has specific guidelines. Taxis are required to have passengers and drivers wear a mask, install barriers, ask passengers to handle their own belongings, not have passengers ride in the front seat and not picking up multiple passengers who would not otherwise ride together.
Doctor Cushman is reminding local residents to be kind to one another and don’t judge those who can’t wear a mask or face covering. More details can be found on the health units website.
