Ontario Power Generation has re-announced the reconstruction of the Calabogie Generating Station.
OPG spokesperson Neal Kelly says plans were on the books a couple of years ago, but Mother Nature intervened, making the job a must.
The 100 million dollar reconstruction work will double the station’s capacity and create local employment in the process.
The contract will be shared between SNC Lavalin and M.J. Sullivan and Son.
Kelly says preparatory land-clearing work is getting underway with the new structure to be operational in 2022.
The OPG spokesperson says water power is an important renewable resource and the new Calabogie Generating Station will have the capacity to power 10 thousand homes.
