It’s a case of anticipating a need, and planning for it.
Renfrew and District Food Bank President Doug Brookes says the organization’s clientele was showing steady growth, and the Food Bank was running out of space.
Brookes says the former church has to have accessibility upgrades, and a new addition will create new possibilities for the organization.
With the new amenities, the Renfrew and District Food Bank will be able to store supplies from Feed Ontario it currently turns aside due to lack of storage.
The Food Bank has invested some endowments, and has accessed available grant money to buy the church, do the renos over the summer, and move in this fall.
Doug Brookes acknowledges the solid community support, and expresses his gratitude to the Fair Board for allowing the use of the Armouries as its distribution centre during the COVID crisis- an arrangement that will continue in place until the move.
