The Renfrew County and District School Board (RCDSB) is delivering nutrition and education boxes to local families. Chair of the public school board, Susan Humphries, says trustees were concerned about families who rely on snacks and breakfast programs at schools. Humphries says they were able to partner with Sysco Foods to purchase meats, fruits and veggies. The chair of the public school board says the Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium helped arrange deliveries to roughly 140 families. She adds the food needed to be delivered in a timely fashion to ensure nothing went bad.
Humphries says this will benefit students all across Renfrew County from Deep River to Arnprior and out to Whitney. Humphries says along with the food they also added in an educational piece. Students received markers, pencils, pens and calculators to help with the learning at home.
The chair of the RCDSB adds this is a one-time drop off and says she wishes they could do more. Humphries thanked trustee Dave Kaiser who works at Sysco Foods for helping arrange the food deliveries and also thanked Rio Tap & Grill for being able to store and hold the food until it’s sent to the families in need.
Humphries says they have had wonderful cooperation with staff and community stakeholders and she knows this will help a lot of families. The deliveries will be done over four days. She says they started last week on Wednesday, June 10th and have other delivery dates on June 15th, 17th and 22nd.
