About sixty socially-distanced demonstrators lined the sidewalk in front of Renfrew’s Low Square on Friday afternoon to stand in solidarity with protesters around the globe in calling out racism in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis May 25th.
Organizer of the rally, Laura, yelled herself hoarse to the honks of passing motorists on Raglan Street South, while leading those assembled in a variety of chants.
Most of those assembled heeded RCDHU advice by wearing face masks and whenever the megaphone was passed between speakers it was first sanitized.
Laura may have been disheartened by the magnitude of recent events, but found inspiration in the numbers that joined her.
The Renfrew event is one of a series that happened throughout the Valley, beginning with a demonstration in Carleton Place on June 5th- protesting comments made by local MPP Randy Hillier, followed by an Arnprior protest Sunday, and a Pembroke march this past Tuesday afternoon (June 9th).
