Anticipated changes in the structure of Junior Hockey in Eastern Ontario have come to fruition.
The CCHL Tier 2 name is no more.
Retiring Commissioner Kevin Abrams says CCHL and CCHL Tier Two monikers caused confusion, and reverting to the former Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League name when referencing Junior B Hockey in the area just made more sense.
Abrams says 11 of the 16 teams in the EOJHL will be owned independent of ties to the CCHL, while the five co-owned franchises will be grandfathered under the new arrangement.
Although the move of the Kanata Lasers to Renfrew as the newly-renamed Wolves still requires official ratification, the club’s joint ownership with the Junior Timberwolves is being counted as among the five grandfathered franchises.
The commissioner’s mantle itself is one of the big moves announced, as Arnprior native Sean Marcellus has been named as EOJHL Commissioner for 2020-2021 replacing Abrams, who will continue in his capacity as Chairman of the CCHL (Junior A circuit).
