The Canada Revenue Agency hasn’t forgotten they’re responsible for processing your personal income tax return from 2019- they’ve just been a little busy dealing with some new Federal programs created by the COVID-19 crisis.
As a result, there are new tax filing and payment deadlines you can take advantage of (or have to be patient for if you’re expecting a refund).
The deadline for most individuals to file their 2019 taxes has been extended to June 1st, and the deadline to pay anything you owe has been put over to September 1st.
Penalties and interest will not be charged if payments are made by the extended deadlines of September 1st.
If you, your spouse, or your common-law partner are self-employed, the filing deadline is June 15th, and the payment deadline is September 1st.
If you pay by instalments, the June 15th payment normally due has also been extended to September 1st.
