It’s a smaller world when we’re all COVID captives, but a retired nurse and former Carleton Place resident is tackling her portion of it.
Lorie Tokola doesn’t knit, sew, or crochet but she’s risen to the occasion of tackling chafed ears sustained by front-line workers wearing masks.
When her niece developed a severe case of chafed ears due to the occupational hazard of being a personal support worker, Lorie got her 85 year-old mom to crochet a pair of ear-savers for her.
That was April 22nd. Ear-savers, now known as mask-mates have taken off across Canada, with a network of 445 people involved in knitting them, including a strong contingent in the Valley.
In the new normal, masks will likely be part of everyday life for the foreseeable future- so donations of buttons and yarn are being welcomed by contacting Lorie Tokola by email, earsavermaskmates@gmail.com
