While school could still tentatively reopen May 31st, the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) has done a number of things to assure its students can learn and succeed while studying at home. To date, the RCDSB has distributed over 1,800 tech devices to students, launched the RCDSB @ Home learning and information portal for students, parents and staff; distributed “learning packets” to students who have limited or no internet access, and purchased and distributed MiFi and internet connected devices. If your home is not up to speed with any of these, you should contact your school teacher or principal. The Board says if there are any essential items such as meds or presecription glasses still at school, contact your school and arrangements will be made to get them to you. Other belongings still at school will have to wait until the Province formulates any plans for a formal reopening, or decides to cancel the school year. With schools closed until May 31, athletic banquets are being planned virtually. Graduations this year will be via virtual ceremony as well- unless it becomes possible to hold them in approved social distancing conditions. There will be no final exams, and days set aside for them are being added to the instructional calendar. Learning involves self-discipline, and classroom teachers will continue to assign work- but if your student is finding the homework hard to keep up with, get in touch with the teacher to work something out as assignments contribute to this year’s mark. Please read more about how report cards and assessments are being made at the RCDSB website.
