There’s a cultural casualty to the COVID-19 crisis.
Stone Fence Theatre has cancelled its summer season and postponed the planned Tom Thomson musical until next year.
Stone Fence Theatre had planned to launch Tom Thomson & The Colours of Canada: Love, gossip and murder in Algonquin Park in July, with performances through October in Rankin and additional tour stops in Barry’s Bay, Bancroft and Ottawa.
This year marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Group of Seven.
Now, they plan to wait until next year to premier the show, with rehearsals beginning this fall.
The big worry is bringing the crew together in confined quarters- and of course, the safety of the audience.
Stonefence remains optimistic it may be possible to entertain smaller audiences this fall with a series of nights of entertainment featuring acts that only require one, or a few performers.
The company still has three performances of Up at Fred’s – Allons-y! on its schedule for October 23-25 in Rankin. These have NOT cancelled- but that decision will be revisited in September.
