As an only child, Gladys Sidock grew up on a farm outside of Renfrew. She attended school in Renfrew at RCI where she was involved in sports and clubs. Gladys also worked for Freemark Grocery in her youth until she was ready to head off to Teacherʼs school in Ottawa. Following graduation, she taught for 32 years in the Valley including Walter Zadow, McNab Public School and Central Public School.
During that time Gladys also had two daughters. Gladys retired from teaching in 1995. Doug Sidock was born in Renfrew, but his father was in the armed forces and they left the Valley for a period of time. The family returned to Renfrew in 1959. Dougʼs work history includes a brief stint with Haleyʼs Industries and working for the majority of his career with Ned Rafuse.
The Sidocks have been and continue to be actively involved in a number of events and activities, including the Lumber Baron Festival, LAFT Players, Candlelighters in support of research for childhood cancers, hockey, the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation, Terry Fox Run and so much more. Considering theyʼre retired, they fairly busy!
