Ontario’s Health Coalition (OHC) is asking a question on many people’s minds: Why Are So Few Ontarians Being Tested and Tracked?
The Coalition notes that more testing and tracking can be a key component of reducing the transmission of the virus.
Natalie Mehra, executive director of the OHC cites statistics compiled by Global News that indicate the Province has the lowest ratio of all Canada’s provinces and territories in completing the testing of its citizens.
That figure is 334 tests per 100,000 residents.
BC and Quebec, the other hotbeds of the COVID outbreak are far ahead, with 717 and 611 tests per 100 thousand residents respectively.
Mehra notes that the Ford government has said that the reason is a lack of reagents needed for testing.
She wonders that if other provinces have enough reagents to do more tests than why does Ontario not?
The Ontario Health Coalition says no satisfactory answer has been forthcoming, and hopes the inertia does not block the timeframe for the Province’s potential recovery.
