Ontario Premier Doug Ford has ordered the mandatory shutdown of non-essential businesses starting Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. for at least 2 weeks. Ford made the announcement this afternoon saying the decision was not an easy one.
The Province will release a full list of places that are able to stay open during this mandatory shutdown tomorrow. It is reported that grocery stores, pharmacies, takeout restaurants, essential manufacturers and supply chain providers will be permitted to stay open.
In addition, Ontario will extend the closure of schools beyond the existing return date of April 6th. Schools will likely be closed in two week increments until they have an idea of when it is safe to return.
Ontario’s move comes the same day Quebec announced the closing of non-essential businesses.
