A special weather statement has been issued across the Ottawa Valley. Environment Canada says we can expect potential brief severe wind gusts up to 90 km/hour on Friday. Power outages are expected where high wind gusts occur.
A band of scattered showers or thunderstorms is expected to develop just ahead of a cold front that will sweep across the region late Friday morning and afternoon. The temperature is expected to drop from 12 degrees on Friday to minus 17 overnight.
Meteorologists say since the showers and thunderstorms are expected to be scattered, strong wind gusts will only affect some areas.
Residents in Renfrew County can expect 15 to 25 mm of rain tonight with a risk of thunderstorms. Strong winds will continue Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
