Hydro One is gearing up to respond to high winds that may cause local power outages.
As of 2:50 pm this afternoon (March 13th), about 550 homes were without power in the Ottawa Valley with the most impacted area being around Eganville and Golden Lake. Estimated restoral times are around 5:00pm.
Hydro One says they are preparing for strong wind gusts up to 80-90 km/h across the province, including northern, central and eastern regions. Areas that may experience extended outages due to the weather and low visibility include: Peterborough, Minden, Fenelon Falls, Cobden, Renfrew, Petawawa, Timmins, Terrace Bay and Algoma.
Across Renfrew County Environment Canada says we can expect winds gusting up to 60 km/h before things calm Saturday afternoon.
Be sure to stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 meters back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to the police and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
