The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is implementing a new model of care that will benefit both patients and physicians. Senior Vice-President at RVH, Julia Boudreau, says starting on July 6th of this year, inpatient care at the hospital in Renfrew will be managed by Hospitalists. Boudreau says right now when you’re admitted at the RVH you are treated by your family physician or a back-up doctor who’s available.
Boudreau says Hospitalists are either family physicians or internal specialist that are supported by Nurse Practitioners. The doctors who are no longer required to attend hospital rounds will be able to better focus on primary care in the community and enjoy a better work-life balance to reduce the risk of burnout. Boudreau says RVH is currently recruiting Hospitalists who will provide care on a 24/7 basis on a one-week rotation. Boudreau says that means if you’re at the hospital for a week you will likely have the same physician cover the entire stay.
