The announcement that the Kanata Lasers of the CCHL are moving to Renfrew is generating a lot of buzz around the league. Beginning next season, the Ottawa Valley will feature three Jr. A hockey clubs: the Carleton Place Canadians, Pembroke Lumber Kings and now the Renfrew Wolves. We caught up with Jason Clarke, the Owner and Head Coach of the Carleton Place Canadians, who tells us the move is great for the league and the town of Renfrew.
With the Lasers move to Renfrew, the Jr. B Renfrew Timberwolves will be looking for a new home. Timberwolves’ General Manager Brent Sylvester says it’s a perfect move for the franchise.
When asked about how the players currently playing for the Timberwolves feel about moving, Sylvester admits there is some concern within the locker room. However, he plans to meet with the team this week to discuss their future and put the players’ minds at ease. The new owners, Jim Seyers and Ryan Leonard, couldn’t confirm where the Timberwolves will be moving, but with the Whitewater Kings now seeking a move to Petawawa, Cobden would be an ideal location, if Whitewater gets approval to move.
