The County of Renfrew Finance and Administration Committee recently heard some good news regarding accessibility. The provincial government has developed a new framework to address the ongoing needs of communities to be more accessible to residents with disabilities. One of the government’s key factors in breaking down barriers in the built environment is funding to the Ontario Building Officials Association from the government’s Enabling Change Program. The idea is to make building officials more aware of the challenges people with disabilities are facing. Also, the province is investing $1.3 million over two years into the Rick Hansen Foundation to launch an accessibility certification program.
