The Outaouais Board of Health has pulled the plug on Obstetric Services at Shawville Hospital, after months of seeing sporadic interruptions.
The announcement, made this afternoon (Friday afternoon) at Shawville Hospital, will see what is described as a “service interruption” slated to begin this evening at 8PM and continue to September of 2020.
The decision was made after the nursing complement in the Obstetrics Department had shrunk to 3 qualified nurses where 12 are needed to maintain the department.
Expectant mothers will be offered a choice of delivering at the Gatineau Hospital or at the Maison des
naissance de Gatineau.
The CISSS de l’Outaouais says the service break is not a finality, and it will use the downtime to rebuild the Obstetrics department to satisfactory service levels.
