The Renfrew County District Health Unit has been hard at work with health care agencies in Renfrew County sharing information about the novel coronavirus. Melissa Botz with the health unit says the constant contact with local hospitals and long-term care homes has been essential.
What doctors know now is that the novel coronavirus is a respiratory virus that causes symptoms ranging from a mild cold to pneumonia. Local hospitals now have signs posted in their emergency rooms with what to do if you have a cough. Once you get to a triage nurse, they will ask patients about any recent travel history. As always, Botz says the best way to prevent yourself from getting sick is to practice good hand washing, and if you are sick, stay home.
