The town of Renfrew is investing half a million dollars in a project that’s expected to save them thousands of dollars year over year. Street lights in the municipality will be switched over to LED, and the work was expected to be financed over 10 years. However, with financial incentives and annual energy cost savings of 24 000 dollars, the project will be paid for in four and a half years, as opposed to ten. A quick look at the numbers shows the town stands to save $144 000 each year after the debt is repaid. Council had looked at converting to LED a number of years ago and decided to hold off on the work. The decision has saved the town some cash and costs have reduced significantly over the years. Staff will be working with Renfrew Hydro and Envari Energy on the project.
