Representatives from Whitewater Region were busy at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference. Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay says himself and five members of council attended the meeting and were granted all eight delegations they requested. Tremblay says they met with the Ministers of Energy, Municipal Affairs and Housing, Infrastructure, Culture Sports and Recreation, Seniors and Accessibility, and Natural Resources and Forestry. He adds staff will be following up with our local MPP to keep pushing forward important local projects.
He adds they and their neighbouring municipalities have received funding to find efficiencies together.
Tremblay says the town talked about expanding natural gas to support the agricultural sector, easing the cost burden on small villages and hamlets. They also talked to Ministers about funding for flooding, getting a sign on Highway 17 to show the McDonald burial grounds where veterans from the War of 1812 are buried, upgrades at the Cobden arena and securing funding for capital projects including the Beachburg water treatment and Cobden waste treatment plants. The CAO says they were also able to secure a letter of support for grant funding to help out with the $2-million in work needed to be done at the Beachburg water treatment plant.
