It took two people to replace Arnprior Mayor Walter Stack during a scheduled absence from Council duties.
Councillor Ted Strike ran the municipal meeting, but Grade Five student Wyatt Sparling took the chief executive’s place earlier in the day, having won the Town’s annual Mayor-for-the-Day contest.
Wyatt had to submit a video application as part of the process.
It was played at the meeting, and the new Mayor had the audience in stitches with the number of jokes he cracked.
Wyatt thinks if there were more kids in politics, the whole process might be a little more light-hearted.
The Town made sure Wyatt had a full roster of duties to perform as Mayor for the Day.
Mayor Wyatt Sparling got to call the first Town Council meeting of 2020 to order, and was presented with a certificate of recognition by acting Mayor Ted Strike.
