An update on the situation at Shawville Hospital this weekend.
After announcing that there would be no general surgery this weekend, a local surgeon has volunteered to pick up a couple of shifts, so the announced break in surgical services is no longer in effect.
However, the doctor is not trained to perform Cesarean sections, so the break in Obstetrics services will continue beginning this evening at 5PMĀ until Monday morning at 8AM.
Future mothers have been advised of the situation.
Pregnant women will be evaluated first at Pontiac hospital then redirected to Gatineau Hospital, unless delivery is imminent.
In this case, officials say there are qualified personnel who can assist in providing care.
